When you come for your first consultation, one of our highly skilled physicians will conduct an in-depth intake session with you. They will want to ask you about the issue which has brought you to us, your health, lifestyle and any medication you are taking. They will assess which therapies would be most effective in treating you, and will devise a treatment plan. This may involve you being treated by several different therapists, who will each treat you according to their particular discipline. As we view you holistically, treatment may be targeted at several areas in order to get to the root of your problem and treat it effectively. Sometimes one therapy will be recommended, if your problem is straightforward and we feel this would be the most effective way of treating you. Every patient is an individual- your problem will have arisen in a particular way, your health and fitness are unique to you, so each treatment plan will be different and tailored to your specific needs. Client and practitioner talking

Our clinicians cover a variety of disciplines which view and treat health issues in different ways. A chiropractor is trained in the non-surgical treatment of disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system. The focus of treatment is the spine. Your health history and symptoms would be discussed. He would want to know what type of pain you are suffering, its duration and intensity, any prior problems or injuries, and any pre-existing conditions. An examination would include taking your blood pressure and pulse, testing your reflexes and specific tests to determine the range of movement, muscle tone and strength and the response of the nerves. If necessary, x rays and MRI scans will be taken in order to arrive at a diagnosis. The treatment plan will be discussed with you, and can include ‘adjustments’ to correct joint dysfunction, massage, exercises, traction, ultrasound, diet therapy and advice. Both short and long term goals will be established. Chiro manipulating a patient

A slightly different approach is taken by an osteopath who’s aim is to treat by moving, stretching and massaging any of the joints and muscles in the body. They do not use drugs or surgery in treatment. The aim is to relax any muscle tension and encourage the blood supply into the area to help the body to heal itself. As a result, mobility should be restored and pain decreased. As part of treatment, you will be given lifestyle advice such as how to eat healthily, how to exercise safely according to your health and fitness and if necessary, given a weight loss programme. Treatment plus adopting these measures will result in less stress being put upon the muscles, discs and nerves resulting in a reduction or elimination of pain.

All our therapists work closely together. As treatment progresses, they will be evaluating what your circumstances require and incorporating it into your treatment plan. For example, if you have been seeing the osteopath, he may decide that you would benefit from a session with the podiatrist. As well as treating conditions and diseases associated with the feet, a podiatrist will be involved in examining the position of the feet and how they interact with other bodily structures. Sometimes if our posture is not correct or we have a problem such as flat feet, it can have an effect upon the way we carry ourselves and could cause backache. A podiatrist is able to assess and correct such biomechanical problems using orthotics, taping, footwear advice and exercises.

Our physiotherapist would be consulted if your issue involved a need to restore movement and function if you had sustained an injury. He would also be able to help with problems connected to aging, illness, and with maintenance programmes for those suffering from long-term chronic conditions. Treatment involves massage and manipulation to help with mobility of the joints, decreasing pain and encouraging the flow of blood and lymph. You will be given advice concerning ways of doing things in a safe way to avoid pain and injury, as well as diet and exercise advice. Mobility aids are available should they be required. Acupuncture can be used as a stand-alone treatment or in support of other therapies. It is part of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and is based on the theory that we have channels running around our body within which “qi”, our life force flows. Any illness (physical or mental), ailment, or pain is an indication that there is a blockage to the flow. The insertion of fine flexible needles at specific points can clear the blockage and resolve the problem. There can also be a positive effect involving the resolution of other health complaints. If the symptoms are related to the same channel, the unblocking can resolve them too. Shoulder/neck with needles in place

The types of complaint we are able to treat are many and diverse. Structural pain such as back, neck, wrist, shoulder, hip, knee, foot and ankle pain, headaches and migraine can all benefit from our multi-disciplined approach. If you have sustained an injury, or are seeking an exercise plan to optimise your sports training, we are able to work with you to achieve your goals. We are able to provide help, support and a maintenance programme for clients who are suffering from long term conditions such as fibromyalgia, diabetes, high blood pressure and COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease). If you are seeking advice to help with the management of stress, or are suffering from anxiety and depression, we have effective, proactive measures which can be taken to help you. Whatever your problem, please contact us to discuss how we could help you. We are happy to have an initial chat to inform you about the treatment options available. There is always something that can be done to help your situation- all you have to do is ask the team!
